Fissure Sealants
We can apply fissure sealants to those deep fiddly grooves in the biting surfaces of the back teeth to protect young teeth from decay as soon as they start to appear. As they are so narrow, these fissures are often difficult to keep clean so bacteria can collect and cause tooth decay.
Fissure sealants provide a safe, translucent coating that stops food and bacteria from settling in the grooves. They are normally applied to permanent teeth as they start to emerge (usually between 6-7 years) and further applications can be made to other teeth as they start to show.
Treatment process
The application of fissure sealants is quick and easy with no drilling required. The tooth is first cleaned and prepared with a special solution and the liquid sealant is then applied and hardened with a bright light so it forms a tough, protective layer.
Aftercare
Fissure sealants can last for years if teeth are kept clean and healthy, and regular check-ups will help pick up any problems.
