The fitting process
- Your first visit will include a thorough assessment of your soft tissues, gums and areas of bone to make sure they are suitably healthy.
- We will take accurate impressions of your mouth to create a model that can then be checked for fit and comfort.
- A final set of dentures is produced and you will return for the final fitting.
- During a follow up appointment we will check your dentures are settling in well.
New dentures will take a little while to ‘bed in’ and may need a little adjustment when they have settled into their new home.
It may feel a little strange when you first eat with new dentures, so it’s a good idea to start off with softer foods and gradually introduce more tricky items. Your saliva flow may increase but this will soon ease off. Your speech may also be affected, but just keep on talking and you’ll soon get used to speaking normally.
You will need to remove your dentures at bedtime to give your gums a rest. They will also need cleaning when you take them out so use a toothbrush or denture brush to keep them fresh. Store them in water or denture fluid overnight so they don’t dry out and lose their shape.
Make sure you attend regular check-ups so we can make sure your dentures are still fitting properly and remain comfortable.
