Dental Implants

Dental implants are a highly effective, long lasting solution for one or more missing teeth. They can offer a permanent alternative to dentures and, as well as restoring your smile, they come with a whole host of added benefits because they act just like real teeth.

Implants can improve your eating and speaking ability, help to prevent shrinkage of the jawbone and enhance facial shape. Unlike other restorations, they also avoid the need for the removal of a layer of healthy tooth so existing teeth will remain intact.

Implants take on the job of replacement tooth roots as they are surgically placed in the jawbone to provide a strong foundation for crowns or bridges. They are made from titanium as it is so well accepted by the body and will eventually fuse with your bone.

The treatment process

  • We carry out a full assessment of your general health, how your teeth fit together, your oral health and the density of your jaw bone. (We may discover you have insufficient bone volume, in which case you will need a grafting procedure so the implants can be successfully put in place.)
  • The titanium posts are placed in the bone.
  • Over a few months these implants will bond with the bone – a process known as osseo-integration.
  • Once settled in and fully healed, we will add new teeth to the snugly positioned implants.

Aftercare

You need to make sure you stay on top of your oral hygiene with plenty of brushing and flossing so your implants and any surrounding teeth stay clean and healthy. You should also see us regularly so we can make sure your implants stay in great condition.

We can offer the services of a visiting implantologist who comes to Grove Mount Dental Practice on Wednesday afternoons – give us a call on 01624 812157 to book an appointment.
